Set up Link

Create a workspace, connect your copy of the Link template in Notion and open your first client portal.

Before you start

You need an email address and a Notion workspace where you can add pages. Link starts on the Free plan; see Plans and billing for what each plan includes.

Create your workspace

  1. Go to using.link/signup and enter your email.
  2. Enter the six-digit code Link emails you. It works for 15 minutes.
  3. Type your company’s name. Link looks it up and offers the logo, colours and typeface it finds. Keep them, or carry on with the name alone.

Connect Notion

  1. Choose Notion. Notion opens and asks which workspace to use.
  2. Keep the option to duplicate the Link template selected, then allow access.
  3. Notion copies the template into your workspace and Link connects the copy. Its top page is renamed after your company, for example “Acme’s Link”.

Link only works with your copy.

The original Link template is read-only. Link refuses to connect it, sync it or write to it.

Open your portal

Your workspace opens with the template’s example clients and projects, so there is something to look at straight away. Link matches them to your Notion copy in the background.

Replace the examples with your own clients, projects and people in Notion. Changes reach Link on the next sync; see Connect Notion and keep it in sync.

If Notion did not copy the template

If you shared existing pages instead of duplicating the template, Link looks for a copy of the Link template among them.

  • One copy shared: Link uses it.
  • Several copies shared: share only one, then try again.
  • No copy shared: go back and choose the option to duplicate the template.

Nothing is saved or synced until Link has exactly one copy to work with. To stop, choose Cancel setup; the unfinished workspace is deleted.

Start from a client portal

A client admin in someone else’s Link workspace can start a workspace of their own from that portal. The new workspace goes through the same setup.
