Connect your assistant

Let your assistant add clients, draft projects and update pages in Link through MCP.

What you need

A Link account and an assistant that supports remote MCP connections with OAuth sign-in. MCP is the connection that lets your assistant work with your Link data. You do not need Notion or an API key.

To create or edit clients, projects and pages, you must be a Link admin in a workspace managed in Link. A connection never gives your assistant more access than you have.

Add the connection

  1. 1 In your assistant’s settings, add a remote MCP server named Link with the address https://using.link/mcp.
  2. 2 Start the connection and sign in on Link’s authorization page.
  3. 3 Review the access requested. Consent starts read-only. Choose Allow writes if you want the assistant to create or edit projects.
  4. 4 Approve the connection and return to your assistant to finish connecting.
  5. 5 Ask “Which Link workspaces can I access?” and check that it finds the workspace you intend to use.

Copying the address is only the first step.

The connection is ready after you approve Link’s consent page and your assistant successfully reads your workspace. If your assistant does not support remote MCP and OAuth, continue working directly in Link.

Create your first project

Tell your assistant which workspace to use, the client’s name and what the project should contain. For example: “In my studio workspace, create a client called Acme and a draft project called Website refresh. Write a brief with goals, deliverables and next steps. Keep everything private.”

Open the result in Link and review it. Ask for a change, such as “Update Website refresh’s brief with a first review on 12 November.” The assistant should read the current project before editing, so it preserves changes made by your team.

Share when you are ready.

The MCP connection does not publish projects, change sharing settings or send invoices. Review access and invite your client in Link as a separate action.

What your assistant can do

  • Read the clients, projects, pages, estimates, calendar and invoices your account can access.
  • With Allow writes and Link admin access, create and edit clients, projects and page content managed in Link.
  • Comment, reply, tick to-dos and approve estimates when your Link role permits those actions.

For Notion-connected workspaces, reading, comments, to-dos and estimate approvals follow the same permissions as Link. General project and page editing through MCP is currently limited to work managed in Link; edit Notion-backed content through its supported editor.

Manage access or reconnect

Open Settings → Profile → Connections to see connected apps and disconnect one. Each connection has its own consent. Disconnecting an app stops that connection from accessing Link.

If the assistant can read but cannot edit, check that you chose Allow writes, that you are a Link admin and that the workspace is managed in Link. Reconnect and approve write access if the original consent was read-only. If someone else changed the page, ask the assistant to read it again before trying the edit.

Screens show a sample workspace in Link’s new design, which is rolling out. Inline controls are illustrations; use them in your workspace to make a change.
